  1. Within your ex-husband's financial papers, there should be records of payments. Policies don't renew themselves and without regular payments, they would expire. While it's expected his children would be beneficiaries, I wouldn't expect anything as the former spouse. His children should have been eligible for his estate, if he died without a will. Contact a good estate lawyer.
  2. have you checked with any insurance person that he may have been friends with? or any insurance person that he may have done business with in the past? was there a court decree requiring that he provide the life insurance? if you have the names of any past associates with any insurance company, call them and give them his social security number and they can check their records..... this is a difficult task to go through but it will take patience.....
  3. First of all, lots of luck on that. My divorce decree said the same thing, he is supposed to carry life insurance, but I'll bet you dollars to donuts my ex doesn't carry it. So what you have to do is ask the executor of the estate (yeah, more luck on that, if he's got a pot to p*ss in, that is) to do research, see if there have been recent insurance premiums paid. You might have more luck filing a social security claim, for your surviving minors. They'll be entitled to survivor benefits until they are 18.
  4. Here's my advice: 1) Call his employer and ask whether your ex-husband purchased group insurance there; 2) Check his bank statements and cancelled checks for at least the past year to see if he was making any electronic or check payments to an insurer; 3) Check his safety deposit box and personal papers. 4) Read his will, which may sometimes refer to insurance policies. 5) Ask his close friends, who may be able to give you information about insurance he mentioned to them. 6) If all else fails, you may be able to obtain limited information from the Medical Information Bureau. This is a company that acts as a database for medical information reported on applications for life insurance, and for information discovered by insurance companies during the underwriting process. You can go to: http://www.mib.com/html/request_your_record.html and click on "Policy Locator Service" at the bottom of the page. I hope this helps.
  5. Wow, three people in a row with the same question! Tips on how to find lost life insurance policies: How to look for lost life insurance policies: •Go through canceled checks or contact the insured's bank for copies of old checks. Look to see to whom checks were made out. You just may find an insurance company. •Ask those who may have known about the insured's financial situation. Try their lawyer, banker or accountant. Also try their auto or home insurance agent. They may know where the insured went for life insurance. •Contact the insured's past employer. An employer may know of possible group insurance. The insured may have also purchased supplemental insurance through work. •Keep in mind that there is no national database of lost life insurance policies. Also, if the insured dies and three to five years later you, the beneficiary, still can't find the policy. There's a chance -- though a slight one -- that you can go to the state, rather than the company, to get the money. Ron @ InsureMe http://www.insureme.com/landing.aspx?Refby=614505&Type=life
