Can a pregnant women be kicked off her health insurance policy?

I have been covered since my husband and I got married in July and then in October I got pregnant. And at the end of march they decided to kick me off and now I have missed two appointments. does anyone know if there are laws against it?

  1. Why would they kick you off that makes no sense..they have to by law cover your pregnancy...something doesnt add up! ETA ~ Which insurance company is it?
  2. I can't see how it is legal. You should have received an explanation of termination from your insurance company. Was it b/c of pregnancy?
  3. You may need to check into your insurance further, some have clauses that they don't cover pregancy for the forst 12 months, they may not of kicked you off, but are just not covering the preganancy Good luck
  4. So, they were covering your OB appointments for about 6 months and now they kick you off? That doesnt seem right to me. You need to contact them and ask them why they have done this. During pregnancy it is critical to have regular checkups, they can detect any possible problems, many of which can be planned for or treated in order to prevent emergencies and further complications. If there is a valid reason that they took you off, then try to see how you can get added on again or maybe you can apply for medicaid at your county social services office. Good luck!
  5. Well if it through one of your employers and you are still employed then no, they can not just terminate your insurance coverage, you're paying for it. But if you have it through a private company and have not made the payments, then yes they can do it.
